Nearly 30 years across Linux, open source, and infrastructure.
12 years self-employed building Linux servers for small-to-medium businesses in Ireland, then support on AlienVault’s Debian-based security appliance (later AT&T Cybersecurity, now Vectra AI), then 7 years at Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu — the most popular Linux distribution in the world.
My work spans OpenStack (at Canonical, Amiosec, and UKTL), Ansible, and Bash/Python. Most recently I’ve been setting up and running the Linux infrastructure behind telecoms security research at the UK Telecoms Lab (NPL) and secure communications at Amiosec.
Six years of Chromebook hardware work alongside Google engineers and the coreboot community — custom kernels and firmware, including the 2014 coreboot meetup in Prague (finished 2019).
I run local LLMs on workstation hardware, including Qwen 3.8 — with a deep background in optimising them for performance and memory usage. I self-host my server and mail.
I also run a diet and weight-loss coaching practice — mitochondrial.uk
